YSV Showcases Power of Place-Based Learning with ODU Lab Schools—oduceio.org

Youth Sailing Virginia recently hosted leaders from all four of Old Dominion University’s (ODU) lab schools for a unique convening that highlighted the role of environmental, place-based learning in preparing students for the workforce.

Representatives attended from:

  • The STEM Academy at Booker T. Washington Elementary (Suffolk)

  • SmithTech: The Computer Science Lab School at Oscar Smith Middle (Chesapeake)

  • The Maritime Engineering and Environmental Science Academy (Newport News)

  • The Aerospace Academy of the Eastern Shore (Accomack & Northampton Counties)

Joined by ODU faculty and industry partners, the group explored how Virginia’s Lab School Network is shaping a national model for real-world, future-ready education.
