Scholarships
No child is turned away from Youth Sailing Virginia because a family cannot afford it.
In 2025, donor support funded $19,176 in scholarships for 64 young sailors, kids who would otherwise have watched from shore.
We award partial and full scholarships from our grant funds. If cost is the only thing standing between your child and the water, please apply.

Who Can Apply
Scholarships are need-based and open to any family who needs help enrolling a child in a YSV program. Awards range from partial assistance to full coverage depending on your circumstances and the funds available.
You do not need any sailing experience, and you do not need to own anything. We provide the boats, the life jackets, and the instruction.
What the Application Asks
The application takes about 10 minutes and is submitted through a secure form. Here is everything you will be asked, so you can have it ready before you start.
About You
Parent or guardian name, best phone number, email address, and the ZIP code of your home address.
About Your Sailor
Your child’s name, the grade they will be completing this coming summer, the school they currently attend, the school they plan to attend next year, and the zoned public school for your home address.
About Your Household
Total household income and the number of people living in the household with your child.
Which Program and Which Week
Select the course you would like, and the week you would like your child to attend. You can select more than one course.
What You are Able to Contribute
If you can pay part of the registration fee, tell us the amount. Partial contributions help us stretch our grant funds further and serve more families, but they are not required.
Demographic Information
Your child’s gender and ethnicity. We collect this to apply for and report on the grants that fund these scholarships. “Prefer not to answer” is an option for both.
