High School Sailing

We cannot direct the wind but we can adjust the sails!

Youth Sailing Virginia currently provides sailing opportunities for public and private 7th – 12th grade students in the spring and fall seasons.  Sailors are not required to have already participated in a sailing program to join.  Through classroom instruction known as “Chalk Talk” and on the water practices, sailors will benefit from engaging, hands-on, cross-curricular educational experiences that bring (STEM) Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math to life!

Local High School Teams compete as members of the Virginia Interscholastic Sailing Association (VISA), a league in the Mid-Atlantic Scholastic Sailing Association (MASSA) district of the Interscholastic Sailing Association (ISSA).  Hampton City School Sailing Teams, Peninsula Catholic, and Hampton Roads Academy Sailing Team currently practice at the YSV facilities. Schools interested in practicing at YSV should contact Kevin Eley (kevineley@cox.net) for information.

Hampton City Schools

Hampton City Schools High School Sailing Program welcomes sailors from all four city high schools to function as one cohesive group, except during regattas when students compete for their school of attendance.  We currently have sailors competing from Kecoughtan, Hampton, Phoebus and Bethel High Schools.  Our spring 2019 practices will be held at 4:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Please contact Kelly Handly (communcation@youthsailingva.org) for more information.

Hampton Roads Academy Sailing Team

Hampton Roads Academy Sailing Team includes varsity and JV sailors.  For the spring 2019 season, HRA practices will be Hampton City Schools on Mondays and Wednesdays at 4:00.  Please contact John Hilburger (jhilbu@hra.org) or Kevin Eley (kevineley@cox.net) for more information.
