High School Sailing

We cannot direct the wind but we can adjust the sails!

Take sailing to the next level with Youth Sailing Virginia’s High School racing. Local high school sailing teams practice and compete locally and have the opportunity to qualify and compete in District and National Championships. YSV high school sailors have gone on to sail with top college teams.

Youth Sailing Virginia currently provides sailing opportunities for public and independent school 6th – 12th grade students in the spring and fall seasons. Local high school teams compete as members of the Virginia Interscholastic Sailing Association (VISA), a league in the Mid-Atlantic Scholastic Sailing Association (MASSA) district of the Interscholastic Sailing Association (ISSA). Teams from Hampton City Schools, Peninsula Catholic High School, and Hampton Roads Academy currently practice at the YSV facilities. Teams compete in regattas on Saturdays at several locations including Fort Monroe. Schools interested in practicing at YSV should contact Kevin Eley (kevineley@cox.net) for information.

Hampton City Schools
Hampton City Schools High School Sailing Program welcomes sailors from all four city high schools to function as one cohesive group, except during regattas when students compete for their school of attendance. Dues will be $200 per sailor. We currently have sailors competing from Kecoughtan, Hampton, Phoebus and Bethel High Schools. Our fall 2019 practices will be held at 4:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please contact Kelly Handly (communication@youthsailingva.org) for more information.
